<p>Haptic feedback actuators are implemented using shape-memory alloys which can be heated so as to change their shape. In one implementation, the alloy may form a support 3a for a rotatable mounting 3 for a rotatable member 2. A heater is arranged to use power received from a power transfer circuit to heat the alloy. The support has two shapes dependent upon the state of the alloy, the second 3b being significantly longer than the first along a long axis, so as to move the member vertically 2a. In another, the actuator forms a tube comprising a shape-memory alloy; the tube being open or closed dependent upon the alloy. Alternatively, the alloy may form a member which contacts a users skin when changing shape. Also disclosed are an audio transducer comprising a number of arms with movable shutters present in exit arms; and a method of simulating an object in a virtual reality system, where a physical object including an identification tag is provided to a user, the virtual reality system senses the tag and simulates a virtual object in the virtual reality based on the tag.</p> |
