Transition metal complexes of amphiphilic/bipolar corroles, optically active isomers or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof are useful for prevention of a cardiovascular disease or disorder in a subject susceptible to develop such a cardiovascular disease or disorder.

A method for prevention of atherosclerosis in a subject susceptible to develop atherosclerosis which comprises administering to the subject a prophylactically effective amount of a transition metal complex of an amphiphilic/bipolar corrole selected from the group consisting of 5,10,15-tris(pentafluorophenyl)-2,17-bis(sulfonic acid)-corrolato manganese(III) and 5,10,15-tris(pentafluorophenyl)-2,17-bis(sulfonic acid)-corrolato iron(III),
an optically active isomer or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, said complex having prophylactic activity against atherosclerosis.
