<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that suppresses image defects occurring in an image during transfer.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus comprises: an intermediate transfer belt that conveys a toner image on an outer peripheral surface; a secondary transfer member that secondarily transfers the toner image on the intermediate transfer belt to a recording medium at a secondary transfer position opposite to the intermediate transfer belt; an endless secondary transfer belt that is laid over the secondary transfer member, and circulates in association with the rotation of the secondary transfer member, while being sandwiched by the secondary transfer member and the intermediate transfer belt; an opposing member that is arranged opposite to the secondary transfer member, so as to be brought into contact with an inner peripheral surface of the intermediate transfer belt to sandwich the secondary transfer belt at the secondary transfer position; and contact width changing means for changing, on the basis of paper attribute information on a recording medium, a contact width in a contact area formed by surface contact between a part of a peripheral surface of the intermediate transfer belt and a part of a peripheral surface of the secondary transfer belt at the secondary transfer position, between a predetermined first contact width and a second contact width that is the extension of the first contact width to an upstream side in a paper conveyance direction.</p> |
