A centrifugal switch, particularly adapted for disconnecting the starting winding of a split-phase motor when a predetermined speed has been attained, comprises a driving member 41, 46 rotating with the shaft 22, main weights 50 pivoted at 63 to the driving member, auxiliary weights 70 pivoted by . means of lugs 73 to the main weights and biasing springs 75 acting on the lugs 73. As the critical speed approaches, the auxiliary weights first move outwards, pivoting by means of their lugs 73 in the specially shaped notches 57, Fig. 6, formed in the side arms of a U-shaped portion of the main weights thereby passing a dead-centre position and slightly shortening the springs and reducing the load they exert on the main weights which therefor move with a snap action at the critical speed. The outward movement of the main weights 50 then causes, by means of their arms 52, the longitudinal movement of a sleeve 37 and allows a spring contact 32 to separate from a fixed contact 31.</p> |
