The method involves connecting a combustion chamber (4) with a cyclic lockable intake over a suction tube (6), where the combustion chamber is provided in a cylinder (3). Fuel is injected into the suction tube of the cylinder during an injection period that is laid to a first time portion before an inlet and a second time portion, where the inlet is cyclically closed after a closing time point. A ratio between the time portions of the injection period is adjusted as a function of structural and/or operational characteristics of an internal combustion engine (1).
