PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an optical film by transferring a surface profile of a cast roll onto a coating layer containing light-transmitting fine particles, in which generation of a linear defect is suppressed.SOLUTION: A method for producing an optical film includes: a coating step of forming a coating layer by applying a coating liquid comprising an active energy ray-curable resin and at least one kind of light-transmitting fine particles on a transparent base film; and a curing step of forming a cured layer by irradiating the coating layer with active energy rays while a laminate including the transparent substrate film and the coating layer is pressurized by a nip roller on the transparent substrate film side so as to press the coating layer to the surface of a casting mold roller. The coating liquid contains 20 pts.wt. or more and 60 pts.wt. or less of the light-transmitting fine particles based on 100 pts.wt. of the active energy ray-curable resin. The nip roller has a surface hardness of 80° or more.
