A skimmer lid system comprises a skimmer lid and a lifting tool for lifting the skimmer lid from a skimmer box. The skimmer lid has a slot extending from the top of the lid to the underside of the lid. A lifting tool includes a shank and a foot at the distal end of the shank. The foot is dimensioned and configured to pass through the slot in a first orientation and to engage the underside of the lid in a second orientation. The skimmer lid comprises a tray and an insert received in the tray. The tray includes a floor, the underside of the floor being the underside of the lid.
