A locking device 10 for doors comprises a securing member 12 having a planar portion 19 for locating between the door and the frame and secured to the frame and a barrier member 14 releasably attachable together. Preferably, the securing member 12 is secured to a door frame by means of a planar portion 19 having an aperture 20 and a wall member or cover 22 for engaging in a recess in the door frame such as a latch bolt recess. The barrier member 14 is then attached to the securing member 12 by a mechanical connection such as a threaded connection, bayonet fitting, snap fitting, push fitting or a hinge and the two members are secured together by a restraining member such as a padlock 16 passing through apertures 36, 38 in the two members. The purpose of the locking device is a secondary lock for inside hotel rooms etc. where the door lock is of questionable security. |
