A system and method is provided for electronically reading and analyzing a barcode stored in electronic form. A barcode processing module comprising a barcode detection sub-module that detects the presence of an electronic barcode in electronic form and a barcode analysis module that analyzes the electronically-stored barcode is provided. The barcode processing module may exist on a server, on an electronic device or on both. The barcode may store information or computer executable instructions. If computer executable instructions are provided, the computer executable instructions may be executed by the server, an electronic device or any combination thereof.
