[Also in Group XV] A filing cabinet 1 with closure means, e.g. a roller shutter 4 or flap doors contains an inclined or inclinable box 5 subdivided into compartments 6, the bases of which are each inclined by the use of wedge-shaped members 6a so that the papers &c are presented with their top edges overlapping. A single box 5 may be fixed in the cabinet as shown in Fig. 1, or the rear portion 5a, Fig. 3, of the box is fixed and the front portion 5b slides on inclined guides and is normally housed beneath the part 5a as shown and may be raised into alignment therewith. Fig. 5 shows a further modification in which the box 9 is rotatable on pivots 7 in the side walls of the cabinet so that when the box is swung upwardly its bottom 11 forms the front wall of the cabinet 1 and its front 10 forms part-of the top wall 2. In the vertical closed position of the box the partitions are inclined upwards so that the papers &c. cannot fall out. The movements of the box may be controlled by springs or a weight. Slots may be provided in the sides of the box to slide upon the pivot pins 7 or the pins may be carried by rocking levers. Part of the lid 2 may be arranged to be displaced before the box can be rotated to the open position. |
