The present invention relates to a process for preparing pearlescent pigment based on graphite covered with a layer of titanium dioxide prepared from titanyl sulfate, which exhibits, in case of a suitably performed heat treatment method, a different range of coloring, and by selection of a suitable graphite particle size it can exhibit a high metallic luster. In addition, there has been determined, that the so prepared product is also electrically conducting, what significantly extends its possible use if compared with classic pearlescent pigments.
