<p>A fire or smoke barrier comprising a roller, arranged in a head-box 6, a curtain 2 for rolling onto and deploying from the roller, a bottom bar 10 and a friction brake. When the curtain has not been deployed it is wound around a roller 4, with the bottom bar acting as a door which closes the head-box. A section of the roller extends out of the head-box and a fusible link is provided between it and the head-box itself, preventing the roller from rotating and so stopping deployment of the curtain. In the event of a fire the fusible link breaks, allowing the weight of the bottom bar to deploy the curtain. The friction brake is arranged to slow the deployment, and can comprise a strap (34) that acts in tension on the roller. A spring (40) can also be included, to adjust the tension in the strap. Other braking means include a friction pad (134), provided on a bar, which can be urged against the roller by the use of a spring (140). The arrangement also includes side edges 12 to contain side edges 14 of the curtain, extending from the head-box to the floor 18.</p> |
