The present invention relates to entropy encoding and decoding for video encoding and decoding. Suggested is a method for decoding the entropy of the video which includes the steps of: determining a bin index and a bin string for the maximum encoding unit obtained from a bit stream; storing context variables for the maximum encoding unit if a final syntax element is in the final maximum encoding unit and a dependent slice segment is included in a picture including the maximum encoding unit when the value of the syntax element is determined by comparing a currently obtained bin string with the bin strings allocated in the syntax element in the bin index.
