<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device in which downward gradation reversal is improved and a high frontal contrast is achieved.SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device comprises: first and second polarizers disposed with respective absorption axes orthogonal to each other; first and second substrates at least one of which includes a transparent electrode, disposed to oppose to each other and between the first and second polarizers; and a twist alignment mode liquid crystal cell disposed between the first and second substrates. The device also includes a light-scattering film on a viewing side of the first and second polarizers; and the light-scattering film comprises a support body and a liquid crystal compound layer formed by applying a liquid crystal compound on the support body. The liquid crystal compound layer is patterned in such a manner that a repeating pattern is formed to give a pitch of 0.35 to 3μm in the liquid crystal compound, in a direction at 45° with respect to the direction of a liquid crystal director of the liquid crystal display device; and the layer has a thickness of 0.17 to 10μm. A weighed scattering area ratio in a scattering profile of the light scattering film measured with a goniophotometer satisfies an expression of S/(S)×1000>40, where Sand Sare defined by the formulae below.</p> |
