PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase durability of an electrolyte membrane, thereby also improving durability of a fuel cell.SOLUTION: A unit cell 15 comprises: a protruding groove 32 and a recessed groove 33 in an intermediate layer 30 interposed between an anode 21 and an anode-side gas diffusion layer 23. The grooves are located on a side of the anode 21, the recessed groove 33 allows an MEA to expand to a side of the gas diffusion layer in a groove width A, the expansion being caused due to swelling of an electrolyte membrane 20. The protruding groove 32 restricts the movement of the MEA relative to the gas diffusion layer in a protruding width B adjacent to the recessed groove 33. In addition, an irregularity dimensional ratio A/(A+B) obtained by the groove width A of the recessed groove 33 and the protruding width B of the protruding groove 32 is set to be 0.5 or more and less than 1.0. |
