Cellulose or textile fibres are bleached with chlorine dioxide or a chlorite under acid conditions, e.g. at pH of 2.5-6 in an apparatus the surface of which exposed to the bleaching solution consists of a synthetic resin based on a polymer or copolymer of an acrylic acid compound, especially an ester of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid. The bleaching tank may be lined with the resin and fittings or parts of fittings may be coated therewith. Spindles or like parts of the apparatus may be constructed entirely of the resin. |
