The method involves directly arranging a rotor (4) within a housing (7), and completely flooding the housing together with the rotor with cleaning fluid (16) for removing contamination on turbine blades of the rotor. The cleaning fluid is energized by ultrasound in the housing, and the rotor is rotated in the cleaning fluid by a shaft (13), where the housing is closed by walls (10', 10''). The rotor is rotated around a rotational axis, where the walls are attached to an inlet of a compressor and to a hot gas outlet of a gas turbine.
