The present invention provides a method for managing a routing table in a router and the router. The method for managing the routing table comprises the steps of: determining whether the routing table is on a nonvolatile memory when the power is turned on; loading the routing table in a volatile memory if the routing table is on the nonvolatile memory; updating the routing table which has been loaded into the volatile memory; and regularly saving the routing table on the nonvolatile memory.
