PURPOSE: A home appliance, a diagnostic unit thereof, and a diagnostic method thereof are provided to diagnose the home appliance by easily extracting product information from an inputted signal. CONSTITUTION: A display unit (118) outputs a menu and a process status about a smart diagnosis. If a diagnosis operation command is inputted by an input unit, a control unit (140) sets up a smart diagnosis mode. The control unit generates a control signal by encoding product information. The product information includes at least one of home appliance information among identification information, setup information, operation information, and malfunction information. The control unit converts the control signal into a tone. The control unit outputs the tone through a sound output unit.
