The invention provides N-substituted indenoisoquinoline compounds of the formula (see above formula) and pharmaceutical compositions comprising the compounds. The invention also provides processes for preparing the compounds. The compounds of the invention, and the pharmaceutical compositions comprising the compounds, may be used for treating cancer.
