PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus with a simple configuration capable of effectively removing a toner remaining on an image carrier without damaging a specific portion in an axial direction on the surface of the image carrier.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes: image carriers; charging devices that charge photosensitive layers of the image carriers; an exposure device that irradiates the image carriers charged by the charging devices with beam light to form electrostatic latent images; developing devices that supply developer to the electrostatic latent images formed on the image carriers by the exposure device to form toner images; cleaning blades that are pressed against outer peripheral surfaces of the image carriers to remove a toner remaining on the image carriers; and a driving mechanism that reciprocatingly moves the image carriers in a rotation shaft direction. The driving mechanism moves the image carriers stepwise in a plurality of times in a forward route and a backward route respectively during the reciprocating movement of the image carriers, and stops the image carriers at different positions between on the forward route and on the backward route. |
