The heat exchanger has a pipe connection between a cooled pipe and an uncooled pipe. A seal is formed as U-ring and is arranged in a recess (18) in the front side of the inner pipe section (12) of an inlet head (11). The recess is formed radially outside before the boundary area of an inner pipe (3). The small axial distance between the boundary area of the inner pipe section of the inlet head and the inner pipe is similar or smaller than the maximum thermal expansion of the inlet head.
