The present invention relates to a metal detection device for detecting whether a metallic material such as a clip or staples is inputted while being attached on a bill through a bill inlet of an automatic teller machine and a metal detection method in the automatic teller machine using the same. The metal detection method comprises a pair of substrates facing each other across a transfer path; a transmitting coil and a receiving coil formed on facing plates of the pair of substrates; an oscillator supplying a current to the transmitting coil; a detector detecting a current flowing in the receiving coil; and a control unit determining whether metal substances are inputted to the transfer path by receiving a detection signal from the detector.
