PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for removing a surgical buttress from a tissue contacting surface of a cartridge half-section and/or a tissue contacting surface of an anvil half-section during operation of a surgical stapling apparatus.SOLUTION: A surgical stapling apparatus includes: a cartridge assembly defining a tissue contacting surface and an elongated slot extending longitudinally; an anvil assembly defining a tissue contacting surface and an elongated slot extending longitudinally; and a surgical buttress releasably secured to at least one of the tissue contacting surface of the cartridge assembly and the tissue contacting surface of the anvil assembly by at least one anchor, each surgical buttress defining a notch aligned substantially to an elongated slot formed at a proximal edge of the buttress and extending in a longitudinal direction of each of the cartridge assembly and the anvil assembly. |
