PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illumination device including a layer containing a luminescent material between a first electrode and a second electrode, in which the contact between the first electrode and the second electrode is prevented.SOLUTION: A first electrode includes a first region overlapping with a layer containing a luminescent material and a second region not overlapping with the layer containing a luminescent material. A second electrode includes a third region overlapping with the layer containing a luminescent material and a fourth region not overlapping with the layer containing a luminescent material. The second region is disposed at a position not overlapping with the fourth region, and the edges of the first and third regions are located inside as compared with the layer containing a luminescent material.
