A digest generating device is a device for generating a digest from motion video content. An interval classification unit configures feature vectors of each of a plurality of intervals which are included in one instance of motion video content from frequencies of appearance of vocabulary words in voice or subtitles which the intervals respectively present, and classifies the plurality of intervals into a plurality of groups on the basis of degrees of similarity between the feature vectors between different intervals. A digest extraction unit evaluates the similarity between a set of vocabulary which appears in the voice or subtitles which each of the plurality of groups presents and a reference vocabulary set, and extracts a digest from the motion video content, said digest being a group with an evaluated value that is greater than or equal to a threshold.
