A folding machine according to Claim 2 or Claim 8 of the parent Specification is modified in that the ramps 78 are mounted and connected so that when the leading edge of an article has been deposited on the lifting plate 68<SP>1</SP> they are automatically moved clear of the trailing part of the article so as not to impair the frictional contact between the article and the conveyer 12. As shown, the ramps are fixed to a shaft 80 connected by a linkage 81, 82, 83 to the lifting plate shaft 70<SP>1</SP> so that when plate 68<SP>1</SP> rises the ramps are lowered below the level of the upper rim of conveyer 12. An electrical, instead of a mechanical, linkage may be used between the ramps and the lifting plate. |
