A roller has a surface layer of a vulcanized rubber composition in which are dispersed frangible, siliceous or argillaceous particles, together with discrete fibres. Specified rubbers are those of conjugated diolefins, e.g. butadiene, and their copolymers with styrene and acrylic nitrile, chloroprene polymers, butyl rubbers and the thiokols. The particles are preferably hollow spheres and may be of sand, glass, crushed rock, clays and shales. Specified fibres are of wool, cotton, rayon, nylon, terephthalates, polyacrylonitrile, vinyl chloridevinyl acetate copolymers, and casein or other protein. The composition may also include the usual vulcanizing agents and the surface of the rubber may be ground to rupture and remove particles of the frangible material and expose the fibres.ALSO:A rubber roller has a surface layer of a vulcanized rubber composition in which the surface layer has dispersed therein frangible siliceons or argillaceous particles together with discrete fibres. The particles are preferably hollow spheres and may be of sand glass, crushed rock, slags and shaler. Eperified fibres are of wool, cotton, rayon, nylon, terephthalates, polyacrylomitrile, vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymers and casein or other protein. The composition may include vulcanizing agents and the surface of the roller may be ground to rupture and remove particles of the frangible material and expose the fibres. |
