The present invention relates to an electric vehicle driven by electricity. The electric vehicle comprises: a front wheel motor to drive front wheels; a rear wheel motor to drive rear wheels; a front wheel driving unit to selectively supply power to the front wheel motor; a rear wheel driving unit to selectively supply power to the rear wheel motor; a speed detecting unit to detect a driving speed; and a control unit to control the front wheel driving unit and the rear wheel driving unit to drive both the front wheel motor and the rear wheel motor to a predetermined first speed section from the stop by using driving speed information detected by the speed detecting unit if it is determined that the vehicle is in a driving mode and that the vehicle is not in a hill climbing state from operation information of an acceleration pedal operated by a user, and control the front wheel driving unit to drive only the front wheel motor if the driving speed is higher than a first speed while not exceeding a second speed which is set to be higher than the first speed. The electric vehicle of the present invention can improve the driving performance by efficiently operating the front wheel motor and the rear wheel motor in accordance with the driving state and the road state. |
