PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide polypeptides comprising a specific amino acid sequence and polynucleotides encoding the polypeptides, for treatment of medical conditions associated with ischemia.SOLUTION: An isolated polynucleotide is disclosed comprising a nucleic acid sequence encoding a polypeptide having an amino acid sequence of HIF-1α consisting of the subunit α in Hypoxia Inducible Factor-1 (HIF-1), which is a heterodimeric transcription factor consisting of two subunits.
