A method of ensilage comprises the employment of a salt mixture, either dry or in aqueous solution, consisting of the lactates and or benzoates of sodium, potassium or calcium together with the borates and chlorides of these metals, the pH of the resultant mixture, when in aqueous solution, being approximately 7,0. The mixture may be produced by mixing the free acids with alkalies such as common soda or sodium bicarbonate. Starch and other carbohydrates may also be added. The percentage of each constituent is between 0,01 per cent and 15,0 per cent. |
