PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve energy efficiency to improve ignitability. SOLUTION: An ignition device 71 is used in an ignition plug 1 including a center electrode 5, a ground electrode 27, and a cavity portion 28 for surrounding at least part of a periphery of a gap 29 formed between both electrodes 5 and 27 to form a discharge space. The ignition device 71 includes: a voltage applying part 31 for applying voltage to the gap 29; a power input part 41 having a capacitor 42 and a power source device PS for inputting electric power to the gap 29; an inflow prevention diode 43 connected in series between the ignition plug 1 and the power input part 41 for preventing current from flowing from the voltage applying part 31 into the power input part 41; and an inductor 44 connected in series between the inflow prevention diode 43 and the power input part 41. The ignition device 71 also includes a re-charging diode 51 for re-charging the capacitor 42 by a backward current of the inductor 44 caused in association with the power input from the capacitor 42 to the ignition plug 1.
