The present invention relates to an apparatus for extracting depth information which comprises a left/right image similarity calculating unit for calculating right-left and left-right image similarities between left and right images; a similar color region grouping unit for grouping regions having a similar color in a pre-set image among the left and right images and providing position information of a similar color region based on each reference pixel for each of the grouped regions; a correlation calculating unit for calculating left-right and right-left correlation values between the left and right images by using the right-left and left-right image similarities and the position information of the similar color region; a correlation selecting unit for selecting a pixel corresponding to a correlation value satisfying a pre-set selection condition among the left-right and right-left correlation values from the correlation calculating unit, and providing position information of the selected pixel and corresponding left-right and right-left correlation value; and a depth information calculating unit for calculating depth information by using the left-right correlation value and right-left correlation value.
