A system, method, and computer program product are provided for delivering video content over a wide area network (WAN). Included is at least one server for transcoding or transrating the video content for delivery over the WAN.

1. A system, comprising:
at least one intermediate server for:
receiving a plurality of portions of video content from a source over a predetermined period of time; andfor each of the portions of the video content:determining a portion of the predetermined period of time during which the portion of the video content was received;selecting one of a plurality of additional servers according to the portion of the predetermined period of time during which the portion of the video content was received; anddistributing the portion of the video content to the selected one of the additional servers; wherein each of the additional servers is associated with a different portion of the predetermined period of time, such that: a first one of the additional servers that is associated with a first portion of the predetermined period of time is selected for distributing thereto portions of the video content received during the first portion of the predetermined period of time, and a second one of the additional servers that is associated with a second portion of the predetermined period of time is selected for distributing thereto portions of the video content received during the second portion of the predetermined period of time.
