PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively reduce AF time-lag without adversely affecting processes other than AF control.SOLUTION: A focus adjustment method involves focus adjustment means which performs a focus adjustment process by driving a focusing lens based on a focus evaluation value derived for each image captured periodically while moving the focusing lens within a predefined scanning range, and includes; a determination step (S207) in which determination means determines a start position of the scanning range; a first processing step (S206) in which first processing means performs a process that is affected by driving of the focusing lens before the focusing lens is moved to the start position by drive means; and a second processing step (S209 to S212) in which second processing means performs a process that is not affected by the driving of the focusing lens while the focusing lens is being moved to the start position by the drive means.
