PURPOSE: A magnesium secondary battery including aryl magnesium halogen salt is provided to widen a potential window without forming a magnesium film on a cathode. CONSTITUTION: An electrolyte for a magnesium secondary battery contains the aryl magnesium halogen salt of the following chemical formula 1 as ion salt. In the chemical formula 1(1), m and n are in the range which satisfies 0<=m<=3, 0<=n<=3; X and Y are respectively at least one which is selected from a group composed of a halogen element, a halogen element-substituted C1-C5 alkyl group, an ammonium group, an amine group, a cyano group, and a group composed of C1-C5 alkoxy; and Z is a halogen element.
