The unit has a spacer (3) provided with two radially inward projections (15, 23) that are axially spaced. A retaining ring (4) radially overlaps end faces of the projections, where each projection forms a plastically deformable end portion of the spacer. The end portion is deformed such that the protrusions face a front end of the retaining ring radially. The spacer is placed in a bore of a mounting part (5). A deformable end section of a head of a fastener (2) i.e. screw, faces an end of the spacer.
