Cast component with MMC reinforcement and attachment bore

A method of forming a component having an anchor portion for attachment of a further component thereto by locating a metal matrix reinforcement body 420 in a mould forming a cast metallic portion 400B around the reinforcement body 420. The anchor portion is formed from a bore 410B in the component and the reinforcement body 420 has a longitudinal axis with at least a component thereof substantially parallel to or coincident with a longitudinal axis of the bore 410B. The bore 420B can house a bearing assembly 430B which supports a rotary shaft member 440 or a bolt can be located in the bore 420B. The metal matrix composite can have an aluminum matrix and the cast portion can be an aluminium alloy. The method can be used to make parts of a suspension system.
