Privacy control of location information

One embodiment of the present is a method of implementing privacy control of location information. Such a method comprises defining a geographic zone for which pseudo-location information is to be reported as the current location of the user, wherein the pseudo-location information is not the current location of the user; receiving the current location of the user; determining that the current location is in the geographic zone; and reporting the pseudo-location information as the current location of the user when the current location is determined to be in the geographic zone. Other methods and systems are also provided.

1. An apparatus comprising:
a processor; and memory coupled to the processor, the memory comprising executable instructions that when executed by the processor effectuate operations comprising:
defining a geographic zone for which pseudo-location information is to be reported as a current location of a device, wherein the pseudo-location information is not the current location;designating a predefined location to be substituted as the current location for reporting purposes when the current location is in the geographic zone;defining a first list of persons who are eligible to receive a report of the pseudo-location information;defining a second list of persons who are blocked from receiving reports of location information about the device;receiving the current location;in response to determining that the current location is in the geographic zone, reporting, to a communications device of a first monitoring user that is listed on the first list, the pseudo-location information as the current location as opposed to reporting the current location as a location that is within the geographic zone, wherein the pseudo-location information comprises the designated predefined location;in response to determining that the current location is outside the geographic zone, reporting, to a communications device of a second monitoring user that is not listed on the first list and is not listed on the second list, the current location of the user as the location; andin response to determining that a third monitoring user is listed on the second list, blocking reporting of location information of the user to the third monitoring user.
