An image forming system including: an image forming apparatus including a detecting unit configured to detect a failure and a notifying unit configured to notify an external apparatus of detection of the failure; and the external apparatus including a transmitting unit configured to transmit solving information for solving the failure to the image forming apparatus, the image forming system comprising:
a deciding unit configured to decide on a type of media associated with the failure detected by the detecting unit, wherein the transmitting unit transmits the solving information to the image forming apparatus by using the type of media decided on by the deciding unit.
