A direct-lit LED backlight source and a liquid crystal display device thereof. The direct-lit LED backlight source comprises: a power converter circuit (210), for use in converting into a direct current voltage an alternating current voltage coming that comes from external of the liquid crystal display device and in outputting the direct current voltage; multiple LED strings (230) connected in parallel, where each of the LED strings (230) comprises a predetermined number of LEDs connected in parallel and receives the direct current voltage from the power converter circuit (210), and the predetermined number is limited insofar that: the direct current voltage for each LED in the LED strings (230) to emit light normally is less than or equal to the direct current voltage outputted by the power converter circuit (210). The direct-lit LED backlight source allows for the use of a step-up circuit to be obviated, thus reducing circuit complexity, and conserving costs.
