A fuel cell system and a stack purging method thereof are provided to discharge the foreign material accumulated inside the fuel cell stack by purge-supplying an oxidizing gas in a reverse direction, and to prevent power generation capacity of the fuel cell stack from being degraded. A fuel cell system comprises a fuel cell stack(10) generating electric energy by electrochemically reacting fuel and oxidizing gas; a fuel supply part(20) supplying fuel to a fuel cell stack; an oxidant supply part(40) supplying oxidizing gas to the fuel cell stack; and a purge gas supply part(50) which is installed at an exhaust path of the oxidizing gas passing through the fuel cell stack and supplies purge gas inside of the fuel cell stack in a condition which allows the fuel cell stack not to generate electrical energy. |
