<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a machine tool comprising a filter cleaning device that can detect at a low cost and accurately filter clogging, in connection with a method of backwashing the filter used for removing chips powder and sludge in the machine tool.SOLUTION: In determining whether or not to perform a backwash operation for removing chips powder and sludge adhered to a filter, which is used for removing the chips powder and the sludge in a machine tool, by flowing compressed air and cutting fluid in the opposite direction of the flow direction of the cutting fluid under ordinary usage, time during which the height of the fluid surface of the cutting fluid surpasses a lower limit position is accumulated per unit time and when the accumulated time surpasses a predetermined reference time, the filter is determined to be clogged, and the frequency with which the height of the fluid surface of the cutting fluid reaches the lower limit position from the position below the lower limit position is counted and when the count value is less than a predetermined reference frequency, the filter is determined to be clogged.</p> |
