<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a honeycomb structure which is excellent in strength of a cell wall in spite of a lightweight and low pressure loss, and can suppress occurrences of end face wind erosion, and a method for manufacturing the same. <P>SOLUTION: The honeycomb structure 1 has the cell wall 11 composed of a porous body of cordierite and at the same time, arranged in a polygonal and lattice-like shape, and many cells 12 compartmented by the cell wall. The porosity is 30% or more, and a thickness of the cell wall 11 is 80 μm or less. In the honeycomb structure 1, a coarse pore amount which is a total amount of a volume of pores having a pore diameter of 40 μm or more among pores per unit weight is 0.012 cc/g or less. In manufacturing the honeycomb structure 1, talc in which a specific surface area is 3.5 m<SP>2</SP>/g or more is adopted, and a rate of temperature increase at temperatures of 1,250-1,400°C in a calcination process is to be 150°C/h or less. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
