摘要 579,801. Floats or buoys ; booms &c. JAMIE, R. C. S., and HUNT & TURNER, Ltd. March 27, 1940, No. 5536. [Classes 9 (ii) and 68 (i)] [Also in Group XXXIII] A float or buoy comprises a number of straight, closed pneumatic or like tubes interspaced with or surrounded by a number of endless pneumatic or like tubes to form the float &c. body, and means for retaining the shape of the body. In a circular buoy, Fig. 1, a flexible cover 1 contains straight rubber tubes 2 interspaced with circular tubes 3, the tubes containing air, gas or fluid lighter than water which may be at more than atmospheric pressure ; fluid capable of sealing a .puncture may be used. The cover carries an upper multi-ply rubber ring 6 carrying a swivel eye 8 and giving access to a chamber 12 containing non-magnetic ballast discs 11 or one or more electromagnets for exploding magnetic mines, and a lower multi-ply rubber disc 7, with swivel shackles 9, is also provided ; horizontal bands 5, of multi-ply rubber sheet, surround the cover and are connected to vertical bands 4 riveted to ring 6 and disc 7. The chamber 12 may be omitted. The bands 5 may have apertures 16 adapted to receive the ends of dumb-bell shaped, inflatable attachments 17, Fig. 1a, whereby floats may be connected together, the pressure in the attachments being adjusted by an inflating valve 18 and a release valve 19 so that under the force of an explosion &c. the connection would be severed. In another form, the connection comprises a solid rubber disc 24, Fig. 6, with loops through which passes a band 26 also threaded through bands 5 of adjacent floats, one end of band 26 having a loop 32 and the other end, doubled over round tubes 29, being passed through loop 32 and secured by a break-pin 30 passing through one tube 29 and held by a spring 31. In a further form, the connection comprises a helical spring passed over bosses and held by cotters. In Fig. 8, a float of streamline shape, or cylindrical with spherical ends, is surrounded by a non- magnetic band 36 carrying pivots 36a for a rudder 38 adjustably held by a pin 40 ; the rudder may be of non-magnetic metal or rubberised alloy with sheet metal stretched thereover. A number of connected floats may carry planks to form a bridge, or they may carryanti-submarine devices such as nets or electrically - controlled mines. Specification 579,190 is referred to.
