The hybrid drive system (1) has an internal combustion engine (2) and an electrical machine (3), which act in a driving manner on a differential (5), where the internal combustion engine and the electrical machine are connected to each other via a planetary gear unit (8) and a power-shiftable two-stage gearbox (13) with a free-wheel (14) via shafts (16,16'). The internal combustion engine is operated in a narrow speed range for charging a battery (4) connected to the electrical machine.
