The upright vacuum cleaner (10) has a base unit (12) and an upper body (14) connected with the base unit in lockable and pivotable manner. An air path (22) leads from the base unit into a dust collecting container assigned to the upper body. The vacuum cleaner comprises an accessory hose (16) formed as a hose or hose- pipe combination downstream an interface encompassed by the air path. The accessory hose allows a suction operation independent of the base unit and is placed partially outside the upper body. The accessory hose is connected pivotally with the vacuum cleaner by a rotatable connection piece (20). The connection piece acts as a valve for air path switching from the base unit into the dust collecting container in one side and from the accessory hose into the accessory hose in another side.
