The wettability of nylon is increased by boiling for about twenty-four hours in aqueous potassium hydroxide solution which may contain an alcohol having a boiling point approximately equal to that of water, e.g. propyl alcohol, in an amount equal to about half of the solid weight of the potassium hydroxide. In the example, undyed nylon cloth is immersed and soaked in a 5 per cent by weight potassium hydroxide solution for about 24 hours and then boiled therein for a further 24 hours, cooled to room temperature, washed in water and then boiled for 3 hours in a 1 per cent acetic acid solution. The products are suitable for use as battery inter-separators (see Group XXXVI). |
