The invention relates to a method of turning machining the inner face of a hollow cylindrical blank (1) in order to thin it down to form a wall (2), one of the ends (4) of the blank (1) being fixed to the rotary table of said lathe, and the cutting tool moving along said inner face, penetrating from the opposite end (5). Said method is characterised in that it comprises the positioning of devices (10) for damping vibrations generated by the cutting, said damping devices being secured to the rotary table and extending in such a way as to come into contact with the outer face of said blank at one of its antinodal points, and in that there are two or more of these damping devices (10), at least two of said damping devices being interspaced at a 45° angle along the circumference of said outer face. |
