PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium that suppresses thermal spread between magnetic particles and exhibits a high medium SNR.SOLUTION: A magnetic recording medium includes a magnetic recording layer formed on a substrate and including magnetic particles and a particle boundary formed between the magnetic particles; the particle boundary includes a first particle boundary having first thermal conductivity, and a second particle boundary formed on the first particle boundary and having second thermal conductivity different from the first thermal conductivity, and at least one of the first and second particle boundaries suppresses thermal conduction.
